Robots and Old School RPG gameplay: A Look At Infinite Dunamis for 3DS

Kemco’s newest game, Infinite Dunamis, came out recently for 3DS. I received a review code for the game and have been working my way through it. I’m not sure when the review is coming, but thought this would be a good time for a preview of the game. Here are my thoughts on Infinite Dunamis so far!

InfiniteDunamis3DS

Infinite Dunamis for the 3DS is set in a world where robots tried to take over humanity, but two kingdoms put aside their differences and quickly beat the robots! Now, the robots that are left are mostly servants to humans. The premise of robots vs. humanity is something we’ve seen in other games and media before, but Dunamis is more focused on the aftermath and what happens next with the kingdoms (though it is possible that the robots may revolt again. Who knows!). And having one of the main characters be half-robot is a very interesting twist to an already intriguing setup.

Early on, the character you control (Luke) runs into a girl who turns out to be half-robot. I won’t spoil who the girl is, but I will say that its an interesting twist and that the character is fun. I especially like how you can upgrade the girl’s stats by using crystals you find from enemies and other places. Upgrading your half-robot friend is probably the most unique thing about Infinite Dunamis. Largely, the game is a throwback to old school role playing games.

Infinite Dunamis has random battles and very retro graphics. For me, thats not a bad thing at all. I like random battles and I like old graphics. Infinite Dunamis is definitely directed toward fans of classic rpg experiences. It does have a couple of neat things not found in classic rpgs, such as the upgrading I mentioned and also being able to learn abilities from weapons, but otherwise its an old school rpg for sure. And so far, I like this game.

Will Infinite Dunamis turn out to be one of the best rpgs I’ve ever played, just a good one, or will I ultimately be dissatisfied with the game? You’ll have to wait till my review to find out. I’ll try to have it up at Games Reviews as soon as possible!

Infinite Dunamis is currently available on the 3DS eshop.
