DayZ Review

DayZ is a massive multiplayer online survival horror game for the Playstation 4. It wants to be horror gaming’s answer to Fornite. Does it succeed or should we bury this one?

The world has ended. You and a bunch of people online have to struggle to survive in a big open envivorment. Think Fornite, expect very empty and uninteresting….

There is no off-line aspect to DayZ expect for its optional cutscene introduction, which is sort of interesting.

Instead, if you want to play this game, hosting the server for the other players is recommended.

There are a lot of servers for DayZ. Unfortunately, the servers with a lot of players have waiting screens. These are very simplistic, “You are (blank) in line” screens. It would have been nice to at least have a waiting area like Fornite has where you can play around in a smaller verison of DayZ’s world. Instead, no, you have to wait or go back to the servers and try again.

There does seem to be a lot of people playing DayZ. I’m not sure why though.

I eventually got to play some games of DayZ and…I never saw another player. Not even once. I did see a zombie one time. I beat its brains out with my bare hands…

There are things to find in DayZ’s world but not a lot. There are mostly empty rooms and a very large empty world. If you’re lucky that is.

A couple of times I found myself in a pitch black world where I couldn’t even see my character. I saw stars in the sky and thats it. Another time, it was pitch black but I could kind of see my character. I ran around for a little bit trying to find something, anything at all really. I did find a house but I could never get into it because I couldn’t see my way around the fence that was in front of it.

Meanwhile, the game’s controls are alright. Pretty typical third person controls. The menu system is a mess though. Its very cluttered and hard to find anything of use and the game doesn’t even explain how to use items. Why would you want to carry your shoes in your hand? How do I stop bleeding? Why did I have to review this game?

And then there’s the game’s graphics! I haven’t even talked about its graphics. DayZ looks like an early Playstation 2 game in a bad way. The game looks just as lifeless as its gameplay is.

I do not recommend DayZ at all. There is no fun to be had here and I’m not sure why anyone would waste time playing it, especially when there’s game’s like Fornite out there.

DayZ gets a 2.0 out of 10. Do not play this! Run away quickly! Go back to playing Fornite already.

A digital code was provided for this review. DayZ is currently available on the PSN store for PS4.
