Asdivine Hearts Preview

Kemco has been bringing a lot of rpgs to the 3DS and Wii U lately. Just awhile back, I did a review for their game Justice Chronicles for the 3DS. Currently, I’m playing Asdivine Hearts for the Wii U. The game came out last week. I will have a review of the game in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, please read my thoughts on Asdivine Hearts so far!

I love role playing games. I’m especially a huge fan of turn-based role playing games. There are not many rpgs on the Wii U, but their number is increasing all the time. The latest rpg to turn up on the Wii U eshop is Asdivine Hearts. I received a review code for this game earlier this week (provided by Kemco) and have been playing it a bunch!

Asdivine Hearts is, at its core, a traditional japanese role playing game. It has everything you’d expect out of such a game: a spiky haired protagonist, turn-based battles, a villain trying to take over the world, and more.  Asdivine Hearts also sports a very retro SNES rpg look. If you love rpgs, you’ll feel right at home with this game.

Story wise, the game is familiar and yet also puts its own unique spin on situations. The translation of dialogue isn’t perfect, but it can be funny and surprising at times! So far, I’m really liking all of the main characters too. I want to see where Asdivine Heart’s storyline goes. I also have noticed the world map is pretty big and I’m interested in seeing what secrets it hides. There’s also a hint that the game has an airship and a boat, but I haven’t seen either one yet. So Asdivine Hearts looks to be a pretty big game.

Not everything is perfect with Asdivine Hearts though. Walking around seems a bit stiff at times. This applies to both the analog stick and D-Pad. Though, the D-pad does seem to be the prefered method of controlling the game. The menus, including the battle system, all work fine though. I’ll tell you more about the controls and the game’s Wii U gamepad usage in my full review.

I’m enjoying Asdivine Hearts so far. I’m really hoping to have a review next week, but I’m not altogether sure that the review will make it then. I think this is a game that deserves the best review I can give it. I know that Asdivine Hearts won’t be getting a perfect score from me, but it will probably get a good score. Despite some control issues, Asdivine Hearts is a lot of fun. It reminds me a little bit of classic Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games. It would definitely be at home with SNES era rpgs! I’ll have my full review as soon as possible.

In the meantime, let me know if you’ve played Asdivine Hearts. If not, why not? Bonus question: what is your favorite SNES role playing game?
