PDP Gears of War 4 Lancer Replica

It’s not everyday the post delivers a gun to your front door, but this was the case last week when another shipment of great products landed on my doorstep from Performance Design Products. This time around, we received a number of great Nintendo Switch accessories to review, as well as a…Gears of War 4 1:1 Lancer Replica gun?!

You heard correctly, I now own a 1:1 replica of the Lancer from the Gears of War series. If you are unfamiliar with the Lancer, I would argue it is the iconic Gears of War weapon that everyone could probably, easily identify. It’s a machine gun, but also a power melee chainsaw weapon. Everyone needs that, right?

This is the ultimate in collectors items, easily surpassing the Nomad RC card that PDP recently released. These toys are things know one actually needs, but lots of people really want. I’ve wanted a Lancer for a long time – as has many individuals in my family – and have the perfect place to display it in my home. I’m glad the gun is made of plastic as opposed to solid medal, despite my belief that medal trumps plastic every day. Let’s break down the design of the Lancer, as well as the pros and cons!

Design

Few words can describe the detail that went into creating this weapon. Know one wants a clean Lancer, so the design team has done a great job of making it look like you are receiving a Lancer that just finished a few hours of combat. The blood all over the gun is beautifully detailed and fairly realistic looking, making me wonder if I should leave it at home when I go out as Marcus Fenix this year for Halloween with my kids.

The gun is made of hard plastic materials, and although in a previous toy article I said that medal trumps plastic any day of the week, I think this might be the exception. If this Lancer was made of more medal than plastic, it would be too heavy to hold, and probably too heavy to mount. Using a hard plastic exterior was the perfect decision for this replica gun, and from a distance, you wouldn’t be able to tell anyways.

There are a few moveable pieces on the unit, including a working flashlight that can be clipped to the side of the gun, a sight that can be flipped up or down, and moveable arm on the side. It would have been nice if the butt of the gun could also slide to make it more comfortable to hold, but ultimately as a collectors item more than a useable item, it’s not the end of the world.

Pros and Cons

This is a beautiful collectible, and I’m not sure there is anything I would change. Even when you pop in the required ‘D’ batteries, everything you would hope it could do, it does do, within reason. Would I like the chainsaw to actually spin? Of course I would, but that might really make this item a real weapon, as opposed to a collectible replica.

If you love Gears of War, picking up this Lancer is a no brainer. You can find all the details on the gun, as well as where to buy over on the PDP website!
