Shieldmaiden: Remixed Edition is a 2D sidescrolling action/adventure platformer set in the future. It features some fun, sometimes challenging gameplay. Is it any good? Here is our review of Shieldmaiden: Remixed Edition for Xbox Series S!

Shieldmaiden: Remixed Edition is a 2D sidescrolling action/adventure platformer about a young woman who lost her sister during the apocalypse and goes looking for her. She has the help of an A.I and a unique shield bracelet that lets her block attacks and do other things. On her adventure, she runs into bad robots and various enemies trying to kill her. Her shield bracelet and platforming skills come in handy!

The gameplay in Shieldmaiden is one part action and one part platforming. Most of the enemies in the game are easy to beat, either with close up combat with the shield or throwing it. The bosses are much more challenging. Like in a lot of old school action games, the bosses have a pattern and if you figure out the pattern, you’ll figure out how to beat them. Shieldmaiden definitely has an old school vibe to its gameplay. Even the platforming is pretty old school!

There are a lot of hard jumps in this game. One thing that could be a bit better is the run button. The running makes you run very fast and you have to use that button along with the jump to get to certain areas. Sometimes, the run overshoots though and you end up somewhere you don’t want to be. Its a very precise and frustrating move. Otherwise, the gameplay in Shieldmaiden is fun and sometimes challenging.

And then there’s Shieldmaiden’s graphics! This game is super detailed, with great looking backgrounds and neat looking enemies. The main character looks like she belongs in a 2D animated movie. This is a great looking game!

Shieldmaiden: Remixed Edition, overall, is a great game. It has fun gameplay and a bit challenge, especially with boss fights. Sometimes, the jumping can be a bit too challenging and frustrating but if you stick with this game, you’ll be well rewarded. This is a great game.
