Pokémon Legends: Arceus New Gameplay Overview Trailer (Japanese)

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is coming out on January 28th! A Japanese gameplay overview trailer is out now. Check it out below and then come back for some thoughts on Pokémon Legends: Arceus!

Pokémon Legends: Arceus comes out on January 28th. The game looks like a blend of Pokémon, Breath of the Wild, and Monster Hunter Stories 2! The overview trailer shows off a few new things. Its in Japanese but lets talk a little about what we can tell from the graphics and gameplay…

Graphically, the game reminds me of Monster Hunter Stories 2 more than Breath of the Wild. The cel-shaded graphics look pretty different for a Pokémon game. The game has a very cartoon-like look. The mountain and the wild areas are very Breath of the Wild though.

Also, it looks like Arceus has camping too, which reminds me of both Monster Hunter and Breath of the Wild. The attacking animals are much more like the Guardians or other things you’d find in Zelda.

Let’s talk about the attacking animals for a second! Aggressive Pokémon is a very surprising development. In Arceus you could be walking along and a Pokémon might come after you. There is dodging too. The previews will make you think that the combat is more Zelda like in this game and while it looks like there is some out of turn-based fighting too, you do get into turn-based battles for the most part.

And…there is another shocking development! You can catch Pokémon outside of battles. To do so, you have to sneak up on the Pokémon. The main character of Arceus looks like a ninja and acts like one too. Metal Gear Pokémon anyone?

It looks like the game will also have a lot of character customization: changing your characters hair, clothes, etc.

Overall, Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks like it’ll be a different type of Pokémon game that blends action, turn-based, and stealth gameplay. It could be challenging but it should be fun too!
