Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Final Wii U Game From Nintendo

When the Switch was first revealed, Nintendo acted like the Wii U was here to stay and the Switch would not effect the system at all. But at the end of last year, we saw production of the Wii U end and then Nintendo started to talking about the Wii U less and less. Recently, they have been talking about the system as a failure and selling the Switch version of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild over the Wii U one. And yet, Breath of the Wild will be coming to the Wii U. In fact, it will be the final Wii U game from Nintendo.

Thanks to Nintendo Everything (via Polygon), we now know that Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the final Wii U game from Nintendo. The Wii U’s online will still continue and older games will still be sold for the system. I’m also sure that some indies will continue to support the Wii U for a little while.

The news that Breath of the Wild is the final Wii U game from Nintendo isn’t surprising. I’m sure many people assumed it was. Personally, I was hoping Nintendo had one or two more Wii U surprises left for us. I can’t say I’m happy about this news. Yes, I am going to buy a Switch but I think its terrible how Nintendo is treating the Wii U. So much for Wii U co-existing with Switch and 3DS.

I am thankful that Nintendo isn’t pushing the 3DS away like some people seem to want them too. The 3DS is the best selling Nintendo system at the moment. Nintendo would be foolish to abandon the system! I’m glad we will see some new games for the 3DS this year. Hopefully we’ll continue to see 3DS games until Nintendo does another portable. Yes, I do think they will eventually do another portable. The Switch is a home console you can take anywhere. That’s cool, but from reports we’ve heard the battery life on the Switch isn’t great. I think the Nintendo Switch will be more of a home console than a portable. Nintendo will eventually do something else in the portable market. But for now, 3DS is here to stay. I wish things had been different for Wii U.

Still, Breath of the Wild looks like it’ll be a great game to go out on. Will you buy Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Wii U?
