Horrified Dungeons & Dragons Announced
Ravensburger, a leading publisher of captivating board games, puzzles, and toys, today announced an exciting collaboration with Hasbro and its Wizards of the Coast division, bringing the iconic monsters of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) to its acclaimed Horrified tabletop game series. Launching in summer 2025, Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons will pit players against four fearsome D&D adversaries, introducing thrilling new gameplay mechanics inspired by the beloved role-playing game.
Building upon the success of the existing Horrified franchise, this new entry invites players to work together, facing a series of challenging puzzles and monstrous encounters. Players will gather crucial items, protect innocent citizens from harm, and strategically navigate perilous situations to overcome the threats that loom. Each monstrous adversary presents unique and thematic challenges, immersing players deeper into the rich and detailed world of D&D.
“D&D’s expansive lore and immersive world-building allow players to embark on epic adventures, battling deadly foes, unraveling mysteries, and forging unforgettable memories together,” said Dan Rawson, Senior Vice President, D&D, RPG, and Hasbro Direct at Wizards of the Coast. “Connection and storytelling are at the heart of D&D, and we’re constantly seeking new ways for players to delve deeper into the realm of fantasy. Bringing the franchise’s iconic characters to a game like Horrified, which emphasizes narrative-driven adventure and cooperative gameplay, feels like a perfect match.”
One of the monstrous foes players can expect to confront in Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons is the infamous Beholder. Often described as a “Sphere of Many Eyes,” this terrifying creature has been a staple of D&D since its inception in 1974, striking fear into the hearts of adventurers for generations.
Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons will also introduce a key element of D&D gameplay: the d20, or 20-sided die. This iconic die will play a crucial role in determining player actions, adding a layer of chance and excitement to each encounter.
“Anyone familiar with D&D understands the significance of the d20 in the game’s mechanics,” said Mike Mulvihill, Game Development Manager at Ravensburger. “When the opportunity arose to create a Horrified game featuring D&D monsters, incorporating the d20 was an absolute must. We are incredibly proud to merge the historical and awe-inspiring worlds of D&D with the immersive cooperative gameplay that defines the Horrified series. We believe we have created a board game that will captivate both dedicated D&D fans and newcomers alike.”
The challenging encounters in Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons are expertly crafted by Peter Lee, a renowned game designer with over 10 D&D board games under his belt, including the Horrified: Universal Monsters game system. Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons is a cooperative board game designed for 1-5 players, ages 10 and up, with an MSRP of $29.99USD/$39.99CAD is currently expected to launch sometime this summer.
