I reviewed Plantera on the Wii U and 3DS. I really liked the game. And now Plantera Deluxe is on the Nintendo Switch. Is this game any different from the Wii U and 3DS versions? Should you buy this game again if you already have it? I’ll answer these questions in my review of Planetera Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch.

Plantera Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is basically the same game that was on the Wii U. Not much has changed expect for the addition of a Christmas look and another song. If you played the game on the Wii U and 3DS, then there’s no real reason for a triple dip. That said, Plantera is a great game and if you’ve never played it before, then you should pick it up on the Nintendo Switch.

The controls on the Switch version of Plantera are best in portable mode where you can use the touch screen to interact with your garden. You should still use the buttons to navigate your garden because the touch screen navigation is a bit too slow.

The controls are not bad in TV mode, but are slower then portable mode. You can’t use touch screen controls in TV mode, of course, so you’ll have to use the analog stick which just isn’t as good as the touch screen controls. That said, Plantera is fun no matter where you play it.

Fans of simulation and 2D defense games will love Plantera. If you’ve never played it before, the Switch version is the one to get. It looks similar to the Wii U version, but you’ll get the added bonus of a cool looking Christmas mode.

Plantera looks much like it did on the Wii U. There really isn’t that much difference between the two games. Though, Plantera for Switch does have a really nice looking Christmas mode. It doesn’t change how the game plays, but it gives the game a lovely holiday look that I enjoyed a lot. Also, Plantera looks good on the TV and in handheld mode!

There is an extra song in the Switch version that I didn’t find in the Wii U or 3DS versions of the game. It is a little bit more mellow than the orignal song and I liked it a lot. Though both songs are good and never get annoying. Plantera’s sound effects are as good as they were on previous systems.

Overall, Plantera for the Nintendo Switch is a lot like its Wii U counterpart, though now you can take it anywhere with you!

If you played Plantera on the Wii U and/or 3DS, then you don’t really need to buy the game again on the Nintendo Switch. Don’t get me wrong: Plantera Deluxe is a great game. Its a lot of fun. I really like the new Christmas mode too. However, there really isn’t enough new in this game to recommend a double or triple dip.

That said, if you haven’t played the game on the Wii U and/or 3DS, then you should definitly buy this version over the other two. With the Switch version, you get a handheld and a console game.

Forget about crossbuy. The Switch version is an all-in-one package. First time buyers just need to pick this one up. No matter what system you play Plantera on though, you’ll have a good time if you love simulation and 2D “defense tower” games. I highly recommend this game.

Thanks to Ratalakia Games for providing a review code of this game. Plantera Deluxe is currently out on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
