More Thoughts From Me #46: New Leaf Welcomes amiibo

I have previously written about the Animal Crossing New Leaf update here. I love this update. I’ve had a lot of fun scanning in my various Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards. Of course, ever since Nintendo announced the new Welcome amiibo cards, I’ve been really excited for them too. And on Saturday last week, I finally received three packs of the new cards!

I carefully opened the three packs and took out all of the cards. These cards each have returning animals from previous Animal Crossing games. Some of the animals I had heard of, like Cleo and Sandi, but most of the cards I received featured animals that were unfamilar to me! Its so exciting that Nintendo is adding 50 animals to New Leaf via these cards. If you are an Animal Crossing New Leaf fan at all, you need to get these cards. Why? Let me tell you about my Welcome amiibo card experiance so far.

Each of the new animals comes with their own RV trailer. And inside of the trailers, you’ll find the animal and various items that they bring with them. There are a lot of new items coming from Happy Home Designer and new designed ones too. Some of these items you can get from Harvey at the campsite, but having these new amiibo cards will help you find even more of these items. Plus, the new animals are (mostly) very awesome.

First of all, I will admit that I have been doing a bit of time traveling in Animal Crossing New Leaf. I didn’t want to wait for these new animals to show up! So, I asked Jacob (a bird) to move into my first town. I let Rowan, my cool tiger, go and my dad came over to get him. My dad is trying to make a Tiger town. He is still missing three of them (including the new one, Tybalt). And on my second town, yes I have two towns, I asked a new duck named Ketchup to move in. Then, I asked a bear named June to move in too! That said you don’t have to ask these animals to move in to your town if you don’t want to. They can just come by your town via the RV and visit.

Recently, I asked Billy the goat, Ike the Bear, and Huck the frog to visit my towns. I don’t plan to ask Billy or Huck to move in. They seem ok but I’m not a huge fan of them. I may ask Ike to move in sometime, but not now. I think its wonderful how you can just have these new animals visit your town without moving in. This is so much better than the regular camp because with the RV, you can choose who you want to visit and they’ll bring unique furniture with them. One of my favorite new items I got, from Ike, is a sports car!! I put it in my workshop/garage in my second town.

Its great using the amiibo figues to have special animals and unique new villagers to visit, but its even better to have these new animals visiting. I plan to invite all of my new cards animals to visit eventually. Oh and we have another pack of cards coming! Hopefully we won’t get many repeats…

I highly recommend these new cards and the old cards for New Leaf fans. I would say that New Leaf has the best use of the amiibo figures and cards of any game that Nintendo has done so far. The figures and cards are well worth having for New Leaf!

So have you gotten any Welcome amiibo cards yet? Do you plan to get any? Let us know about that and which new animal you think looks the best!

Next week: Games of year! What was my favorite platformer, rpg, etc of the year? What is my overall favorite game of the year? I’ll have my list for you in next weeks More Thoughts!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I want all of these new animal cards. Wish me luck.
