More Thoughts From Me #151: My Top 10 Games of 2018

Welcome to the last More Thoughts of the year! Its been a great year of gaming. So many games, so little time right? I’ve played a bunch of games this year and so I thought I’d put together a list of my favorite games of 2018. Enjoy! And Happy New Year!

Its been a great year for video games. The Nintendo Switch, especially, has had a very good year. But this was also the year that my family finally got a PS4. So I’ve played PS4 games now and some of them are in my top 10 games too. Here is my 10 favorite games of 2018 list (starting from #10):

10. Stardew Valley (Switch): When this game first came out, I couldn’t stop playing it. I don’t play it as much now as I use to but I love having this game on my system and checking in with my farm once and awhile (thank goodness this isn’t a real time game). Stardew Valley is a must for simulation game fans. Start your farm, do favors, mine, fight battles, get married, and more. Really fun game! Oh and now multiplayer has been added to the game. I haven’t tried that, you have to play with friends, but c’mon, multiplayer Stardew Valley. Wow.

9. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS): I love time travel. One of my all-time favorite games is Chrono Trigger. And while I’m not sure where Radiant Historia would place on my all-time favorite list, it was definitely one of my favorite games of this year. 3DS didn’t have very many new games to play this year. This game was a must play for rpg fans on the system.

8. Saturday Morning RPG (Switch): Growing up, I watched a lot of Saturday morning cartoons. Saturday Morning RPG taps into that nostalgia of old cartoons, while also having an excellent battle system, fun gameplay overall, and really nice graphics. Without a doubt, this is one of the best rpgs you can download onto your Nintendo Switch!

7. Warioware Gold (3DS): I never thought I’d be such a big fan of Warioware. These games are just so much fun. If you’re bored and you need a good time killer, Warioware Gold on the 3DS is exactly that. The mini-games here are fast, fun, and oh so very addictive. Another reason to play your 3DS this year!

6. Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (Switch): What does an Animal Crossing fan do when there’s no Crossing on the Switch? In my opinion, that fan should download Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. While this game isn’t exactly Animal Crossing and it does borrow from Harvest Moon a bit, it has the spirit of my favorite franchise and its a very relaxing and fun game. Now I feel like playing Yonder again.

5. LEGO DC Super-Villains (Switch): The Lego games keep getting better and better. In my opinion, this game may be the best one yet. Fun gameplay, some new twists, very good story, and more DLC to come! Can’t wait.

4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS): Wait. New Leaf didn’t come out this year. Maybe it unfair or strange to put this game in my top 10 favorite games of 2018 list but I just had to. I still play New Leaf every. single. day. Most of the time its just a little bit but I am such a huge fan of this franchise. Even when the new game comes out next year, I’ll still be checking my New Leaf town(s) every day.

3. Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Switch): Nintendo put everything and the kitchen sink into this game and made it the best Smash game ever. How will Nintendo top this game (as far as Smash Bros goes)? I don’t think they can.

2. Spider-man (PS4): Its been a fantastic year for Spider-man fans. First, Spidey in Infinity War, this game and then Into the Spider-verse. All three are amazing adaptations of Spider-man that are different from the source material but still very faithful to the heart of the character(s). I love this game! Its the best Spider-man game ever.

1. Dragon Quest 11 (PS4): The reason my dad and I just had to have a Playstation 4 was this game. We both love Dragon Quest and neither one of us wanted to wait till whenever the Switch version of this game comes out. DQ11 on the PS4 is an awesome game. It is also my favorite game of the year!

Honorable mentions: Cosmic Star Heroine, Diablo 3, Xenoblade Chronicles Torna, Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition

There were so many excellent games out this year. Though, I suspect that 2019 will be even better!

What were your favorite games this year?

Next week: A new year! My column will be late again next week. It’ll be up either Wednesday or Thursday. What will it be about? Well, its another top 10 list! This time it’ll be Top 10 Games I’m looking forward to this year (2019). See you then!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Is it 2019 yet?
