Witcher 3 Awards and DLC Review

I’m not sure October could have become any better for CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the award winning Witcher franchise and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game. Not only did they launch the first of two large expansion packs this month – which was very good by the way, more below – but they also took home five awards in the Golden Joysticks 2016!

Hearts of Stone Review

The new DLC for the Witcher 3 is not going to blow you away. It is more of the same, which in my case, was an excellent thing. The story line is good, and probably doesn’t get enough credit because of how good the Witcher 3 is in general when it comes to storytelling. Had the main games story been abysmal, this would have been characterized as outstanding. When compared to the main game, this is, good.

The lengthy quest in Hearts of Stone centres on ruffian Olgierd von Everec. You come to understand that he is in debt to a character you met early int he game, Gaunter O’Dimm. Here is where it gets confusing. You are ALSO in debt to O’Dimm, so by collecting from Everec, you also clear your name.

Confused? There is more. Everec said he would grant three wishes prior to settling his debt. Since you are trying to collect from Everec to pay your own debt, you ultimately must complete all the tasks given. This about sums up what you will be doing. Cleaning up messes all across the Witcher world. But, it is fun. You will do a bit of everything: being a salesman, fighting monsters, attending weddings, launching, getting angry, playing Gwent. I think you understand what I’m getting at: you are playing more of the Witcher.

If you have completed the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and want more, definitely pick this up. If you haven’t, perhaps thing twice. There really isn’t anything revolutionary about this. It all happens in the same world, with some of the same villages and towns. This is not an expansion that adds tons of new areas to explore. Again, it is more of the same, but this is definitely not a bad thing.
