Typing of the Dead: Overkill Hits Steam November

typingofthedead_690x388

One of the best light-gun style zombie games ever didn’t even use a light gun. Typing of the Dead was a House of the Dead spin-off in which instead of aiming at oncoming undead, you instead typed a random word as quickly as you could.

On paper it sounds terrible. Those of us that tried it know just how fun it could be. Never has hitting keys felt so zombie-smashing satisfying.

There were two Typing of the Dead games released, and now there’s been a third. Typing of the Dead: Overkill is now available for pre-purchase on Steam. It contains a series of features designed to entertain Typing of the Dead fans from back in the day, including a co-op update that will be released shortly after launch. You can pre-purchase from Steam right now, and unlock the game when it releases on November 1st.

It has pretty decent specs as well:

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7 / Windows 8
Processor: 2.0 GHz Dual Core processor
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 6450, NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 or Intel Integrated Graphics HD 3000
DirectX: Version 11
Hard Drive: 10 GB available space

Since the other Typing of the Dead games are by and large unavailable nowadays, especially in terms of digital distribution, this might see a resurgence of the franchise. It’d be great to think SEGA could release the original games as well, but for now, Overkill is more than enough, and a complete out-of-nowhere surprise as well.
