Square Enix Release First Gameplay Trailer for Thief

Square Enix have today released a new trailer for Thief, noteworthy as the first proper gameplay video for the game. See how your adventure will play when Thief is  released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 early next year.

“I’ve been away, but I couldn’t tell you where…”

Thief has changed, but some things are still the same. It still looks dark, smooth, you’ll still need to break into beautiful houses, avoiding guards and timing your movements perfectly. There’s something very fresh about it all though, something that couldn’t have been possible a few years ago. It even looks a massive step up from Dishonored, which many thought would be similar in theme.

And there’s definitely something for everybody. Old Thief fans will be happy to return and play as they always did, while newer gamers can take advantage of modern controls and graphics to really get to grips with what was once a massive franchise.

The video’s description doesn’t say which version of Thief this is taken from, but early reaction seems to have been very positive either way. Some were worried about “superpowers,” but I think that makes it slightly more interesting. Not because you can focus to that level and make it easier, but because we’re not master thieves. We have to operate within the confines of the game’s engine, and adding focussing helps smoothen that edge somewhat.

Thief will be released in late February 2014.
