Square Enix Announces Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Screen

Today, Square Enix has announced that they will be releasing Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix in 2014. Like the recently released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix, 2.5 will be exclusive to the Playstation 3, and feature high-definition remakes of classic games in the Square Enix/Disney franchise. The game will include Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix, both originally released in Japan for the Playstation 2 and Playstation Portable, respectively. Also packaged in is Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, a puzzle game entry in the series that saw a global release for the Nintendo DS back in 2011, which features remastered cinematic cutscenes.

Here’s more from the official press release posted on GamaSutra:

Picking up after KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMIX, players will be able to continue on their adventures with Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy, and also explore the origins of the KINGDOM HEARTS series with characters Terra, Aqua and Ventus – all with gorgeous high-definition visuals and enhanced gameplay mechanics. KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.5 ReMIX will provide fans with the chance to replay the games of the celebrated franchise, and also lead into the highly anticipated KINGDOM HEARTS III, which is set to be released on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft.

This news really shouldn’t come as any surprise. HD 1.5 has been met with a mostly positive response, and Square Enix more than likely has been planning to give the same re-release treatment to the rest of the games. Fans are also eager to get their hands on Kingdom Hearts III, so these high-res makeovers should hopefully tide them over while they wait. Check out the trailer below.
