Nintendo Store Wii Us Sold Out for the First Time

nintendo-wii-u-review-1_690x460

The power of Mario Kart and the upcoming Super Smash Brothers actually does seem to have had an affect on Wii U sales. For the first time since they’ve started selling refurbished Wii Us on their website, Nintendo have had to post a notice saying they’re completely sold out of consoles.

There have been times when they needed to be put up for backorder, but they were still available to buy in the meantime. Now you’re unable to even put your name on future stock, indicating that perhaps there’s something a little different going on.

Granted, it may not be entirely down to recent success, although it does seem to be the favourite method of purchase for groups like Neogaf. Refurbishments could, in theory, run out, although it seems unlikely – there are always going to be broken consoles coming in, the question is more whether supply can keep up with demand.

Alternatively, it could just be that Nintendo are looking to swap up the current bundle, which is incredibly fair considering by how much they were undercutting stores generally. With Black Friday on the horizon and Christmas just after that, there are bound to be good deals that could compare to the “official” online offering, and it’ll be interesting to see if stock returns at all during this period.
