Animal Crossing Pocket Camp for Android and iOS

Late last night, eastern time, Nintendo released a mini Animal Crossing mobile direct aimed at providing fans on update to the previously announced Animal Crossing mobile game. Titled ‘Pocket Camp,’ this new addition to the Animal Crossing universe will be a free to play adventure where players will flesh out their own camp sites, enticing guests to visit based on their preferences. All of yoru favorite Animal Crossing characters look to make an appearance here, and outside of the free-to-play element, it looks very much like an Animal Crossing game. Check out the trailer below!

Everything you would expect from a free-to-play title is doable in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. You will be able to travel around a small – although perhaps expandable? – map and collect various resources. In this situation, of course, these are all tied to the animal crossing universe, so you will spend time collecting bugs, fish, fruit, and much more. These items can be traded in for bells, used in crafting recipes to get new items for your camp, or can be used to finish quests provided by your animal friends.

Timers will indicate how much you can do in any one sitting – in the direct, for example, it was going to take 72 hours to complete a new pool for the campground. These timers can be reduced by using the premium currency available in the game. This currency can be earned by leveling up or completing specific tasks, or can be purchased with real dollars. We expect certain items will be exclusively tied behind this premium currency, but wince you can earn premium currency in the game, I’m sure the official word from Nintendo will be that you don’t need to spend money to see everything the game has to offer.

I’m a real sucker for these types of games – have been playing The Sims Freeplay and Simpsons: Tapped Out for years now – and am really looking forward to playing Animal Crossing on my mobile phone. Not everyone is going to be excited about this release however, and our own Daniel Fugate had a little something to say about that, even has a HUGE Animal Crossing fan!
