Final Fantasy VII Update fixes PC Music

Final Fantasy VII_669x501

There was one major complain that I had about the PC re-release of Final Fantasy VII, which was rather good otherwise. That was that Square Enix had decided to include the original PC music rather than revert to the better known, better appreciated PS1 version. An update late last week now fixes this problem.

That’s not to say that it wasn’t easily sorted in the first place. Final Fantasy VII had, and has, an active modding community who largely work on changing the graphics, but PS1 music for the PC version of the game has been available for almost as long as there’s been a PC version. Still, having to change the game’s files before you’re even able to play it if you want an optimum experience isn’t a good selling point, and Square Enix listened to their fans.

Described by one commentator as “like the PS1 music, but clearer,” the Steam version of Final Fantasy VII is once again becoming the one to beat. By restoring the likes of JENOVA and One Winged Angel to their former glory, Final Fantasy fans can once again play it as it was meant to be played.

Now if only Square can do something about those stretched backgrounds, it may even be worth buying on PC as opposed to the Vita.
