Heihachi and Spawn Announced for Soul Calibur II HD Online

Soul Calibur II HD Online

One of the big questions about Soul Calibur II HD Online was which of the guest characters would be making their return. In the original release of the game, the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox versions each had a different character. Link for Gamecube, Heihachi for PS2 and Spawn for Xbox.

Today Namco Bandai have announced that two of those three characters will be coming back, and this time around platform won’t be important. Irregardless of if you buy Soul Calbur II HD Online for Xbox 360 or PS3, you’ll have access to both Heihachi and Spawn. This is the first time those characters have been made available within the series, outside of the original Soul Calibre II, and the first time they’ve been cross-platform.

Heihachi, of Tekken fame, is generally agreed to be the best of the three guest characters, most surprising when you realize he’s unarmed in a game dedicated to weapons. Spawn was originally made a guest character because McFarlane was going to make figurines based upon the Soul Calibur IP, and the Xbox didn’t have an iconic characters worthy of “joining the fray.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Soul Calibur II HD Online eventually makes it to Wii U, with the Link character included. If that happens, the Wii U version will be the most complete version of Soul Calibur II ever released, and the version to buy. As of now, a Wii U version hasn’t been officially announced, although a number of petitions exist from fans wanting a port.
