Dualshock 4 Touchpad put to good use in Infamous: Second Son
We know the PlayStation 4 Dualshock 4 will include a touchpad, but very little has been shown of its uses. Sure, we’ve seen Sony officials demonstrate how you can use the pad to throw little VR creatures into your living room by flicking the touchpad, but lets be honest, that’s just a gimmick only a select few of us will really care about. How the touchpad will be put to use in fully fledged AAA games was a mystery, until now.
Sucker Punch, creators of Infamous: Second Son, have released a trailer today showcasing exactly what they have been doing to integrate the touchpad in many innovative ways.
In the demonstration, Senior Programmer Matt Longest is seen using the pad to destroy an electrical generator by strategically placing his left thumb on the pad while frantically spamming the R2 button till it explodes. A little later Matt uses both thumbs on the pad to take out an enemy from behind, and he does the same again to charge up a superpower further along in the video.
We know the pad is clickable too so perhaps there’ll be even more neat tricks up Delsin Rowe’s sleeve come release.
Sucker Punch are also putting the built-in speaker to good use although exactly how is not really fully explained in the video. I’d expect that to be more apparent with a personal hands-on with the game though.
Infamous: Second Son is slated for a February 2014 release exclusively for PS4.
