Old Enemy Returning for Metal Gear Solid V

SquareEnix-Statues

Square Enix have spilled the beans on a so far secret character in Metal Gear Solid V. The Final Fantasy creators, who are doing the play-art figures for The Phantom Pain, accidentally left a little too much detail on one of the statues, allowing for a clear glance at who we’ll be facing in the upcoming stealth shooter. Warning: this is definitely a big spoiler, although one that’s been hinted at in the past, so if you want your first run of Snake’s latest to be as pure as the internet age allows, it’s probably worth glancing elsewhere.

At first glance, everything seems in order in the picture above. On closer inspection though – real close inspection – you might notice something is a little odd about the “fire man” who appeared in the original Phantom Pain trailer way back when. There were theories that it was Volgin at the time, but now it’s almost certain that it’s Metal Gear Solid 3’s electric Raiden-fancying bisexual baddie.

While most of his features are masked, those bullets mean this is almost certainly more than just a reference. Whether he’s really in the game if if there’s going to be some sort of supernatural tomfoolery going on (in a Metal Gear game?!) we don’t yet know, but we can’t wait to find out.
