Latest Steam Update eases your OCD

Steam Logo

When you get a decently sized library on Steam, certain things will begin to annoy you. Maybe it’s the fact that the older GTA titles are listed twice in both PC and Mac variants, or that your Tomb Raider collection is totally out of order? It’s not really the end of the world, not until you notice it anyway, at which point you’d trade in your left hand for someone to do something. Well, put down the meat cleaver, Steam’s latest update fixes the issue, no blood necessary.

Although it was quietly included in yesterday’s update, the sorting fixes didn’t get much of a fanfare in the changelog:

  • Improve library sorting and type-to-jump for games that start with “A” or “An”.
  • Eliminate duplicate library entries for games with separate Mac and PC app IDs
  • Improve library sort order for certain game series

This doesn’t mean that it’s a small update, as anybody with a larger-than-average Steam collection will attest to. It goes beyond being mildly anal, with the order actively making it hard to find a sense of linearity with big franchises. Without knowing exactly which series have been fixed, it’s hard to know how extensive this update is, but looking at my own collection of some 300 titles, I can see some major improvements. Finally my collection of unplayed games looks slightly better, and isn’t that what Steam is all about?
