DICE Announce Star Wars Battlefront, Teaser Trailer

I’m sure I’m not the only one that swore out loud when Star Wars Battlefront was announced this evening. EA, not content with merely proving themselves as the new holders of the Star Wars IP, have instead just gone straight for the game we’ve all wanted since the release of Battlefront 2 in 2005. More than that, it’s being built by DICE, a team that knows multiplayer shooters like the backs of their hands.

Although nothing else was announced – not even a vague “2014” release date – you could tell by the audible cheers of the audience that this was an announcement a long time coming. The trailer showed just the merest hint of Hoth, and the room went crazy.

DICE have been long rumoured to be working on this game, so I can’t imagine it’s so far in the future that the teaser video is going to have to keep us going until next E3. There’s also the question of whether Battlefront is being made from scratch – there was a working build at LucasArts, video of which leaked, via YouTube, onto the internet last year.
