American McGee Announces OZombie – A Dark Take on The Wizard of Oz

Alice_690x759

If you were a fan of Alice back in the day, the thought of American McGee’s Oz was just unbearable. That dark style mixed with one of the best know fantasy stories ever… It inevitably got cancelled. That hasn’t stopped the question popping up regularly, however: “Will American McGee and Spicy Horse ever tackle Dorothy’s trip along the yellow brick road?”

American McGee has today announced OZombie, a new take on The Wizard of Oz for PC, Linux, Mac and tablets. You can donate via Kickstarter, as well as read through the history of the game. It’ll be predominantly single player with a focus on “roleplaying and tactical combat.” The Scarecrow has taken over Oz, and it’s Dorothy’s great granddaughter who much visit that once beautiful land and set things straight. Along with help from the Tin Woodsman and the Lion, the player’s goal will be to stop the Scarecrow at all costs.

This is a game that a lot of people have been waiting for. We’ll be taking a deeper look at OZombie over the coming days, but for now – go donate. If the artwork and storyline is anything to go by, it’ll be worth it.

Spicy Horse’s last game, Akaneiro, was met with mixed reviews (despite its vague take on Little Red Riding Hood). OZombie definitely seems to be going back to what people traditionally think of when they think American McGee.
