Gamertag on Xbox Live

Have you ever wanted a Gamertag on Xbox Live only to realize that someone already has it. What might infuriate you even more is figuring out that that person might not even be an active Xbox Live user anymore. Some of those Gamertags are about to change. As reported by Major Nelson on his twitter account, Microsoft is set to rerelease over a million stale Gamertags.

Not a whole lot of details are being given, except that this rerelease will begin this Wednesday. Here is more from Xbox Live’s Major Nelson,
These Gamertags are from accounts abandoned from the original Xbox era, the same source of Gamertags we used in our 2011 release. These accounts never migrated to Xbox 360 and as a result they have been inactive for quite some time.
Major Nelson also noted a number of categories of names that will be open to take, begining on Wednesday, including Proper Names, Pop culture references (Entertainment, sports, gaming), Types of Food, Geography and Travel, Science and Technology, Math and Numbers, Animals, and some of the greatest inventions of all time
More on this rerelease can be found on Major Nelsons blog, here.
