SEGA Revives Crazy Taxi on Mobile

Who’s ready for some CRAAAAAAAZZZZY money? Are ya ready?! HERE WE GO. Crazy Taxi was a must-have on Dreamcast, and although it didn’t age especially gracefully, mostly because other titles pushed the genre so much further, it still managed to get a decent and seemingly popular re-release a couple of years ago. Well, SEGA aren’t done with the franchise, and have today announced a brand new Crazy Taxi title for mobile devices.

Crazy Taxi: City Rush isn’t quite the game you might expect. It seems more akin to the endless runner genre, thinly veiled by four wheels. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and might end up working better on the platform. In City Rush, you’ll swipe to change lanes, ride up ramps or perform stunts. It sounds simpler, for sure, but does that really capture the spirit of the original games?

Aside from that though, City Rush brags a brand new set of locations, new passengers and missions, and a whole host of stunts. It’ll be available later this year.

From the press release:

“I’m very excited to finally be able to share with you the first news of Crazy Taxi: City Rush,” said Executive Producer and creator of the arcade original, Kenji Kanno. “We are delivering a truly fun game that captures everything our fans love about the original and infusing it with several new features to create an even more fantastic and memorable experience.”

“Creating a new game for our Crazy Taxi fans is extremely rewarding” said Chris Olson, Senior Vice President of SEGA Networks. “City Rush embodies the spirit of Crazy Taxi with its signature frantic arcade action and crazy stunts and also delivers a new mobile experience with easy one touch controls and social features.”
