Ground Zeroes PS4 Sells Almost Three Times Xbox One Version

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a decent title, although the price doesn’t quite match the amount of content on offer (our full review is coming later today). That hasn’t stopped it being a pretty successful seller though, hitting second place in the charts behind Infamous: Second Son. The fact that it’s had a fairly exciting launch isn’t really the most interesting thing about its release though. For that, you’ll need to look closer.

For instance, Ground Zeroes has sold three times more on the PlayStation 4 than it has on the Xbox One (53% of sales VS 20% respectively). There could be a variety of reasons for this, most obviously because there are more PlayStation 4 devices out there than there are Xbox Ones. The sheer numbers game would make you think the PS4 version would outsell the Xbox One, but by three times? It’s also fair to say that the Metal Gear franchise is one that many people identify with the PlayStation brand, although it’s never been exclusive.

Also interesting, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game sold even less than the Xbox One, representing only 7% and 15% respectively. Hardcore gamers are pushing the next-gen sales for sure, and core titles with next-gen releases are obviously seeing a lot of support.

Whatever you thoughts on Ground Zeroes, whether you think it’s an expensive demo or a clever look at what’s to come, people are still buying it, and that’s a win for Kojima and co.
