Wondershot a great Social Title on Xbox One

art2

Social games have been coming to consoles more frequently on the last few months, and Wondershot from French developer Leikir Studio continues that trend. The game walks the fine line between being great for kids and borderline enjoyable for adults. My time with the game and its few characters and modes was pretty short, but it has been the go-to for my son over the last few days. Overall, Wondershot is an adequate release on Xbox One and Steam, and one that you should at least get your moneys worth on.

Simplicity is the Key

There is nothing complicated about Wondershot. It is a four player (maximum) top down shooter, with on shot, one kill mechanics. The catch? You actually only get one shot. Miss with it, and you will be forced to retrieve your weapon.

The various weapon / character types are fun to play with, which is great…because there are only four. Boomerangs, when thrown, will make there wau back to the thrower, at least a ways. Hammers will, well, hit things. A bow has some great range for long shots, and projecticles from a sling will bounce off a number of obstacles if it makes contact.

The real difficulty for me was wrapping my mind around the controls. Your movement and aiming are mapped to the same analog stick. Shots are fired using one button – changes depending on whether it is held or just tapped – and pkayers can lock on a direction by holding the left trigger. The right trigger can be used as a defensive roll, or to avoid getting slowed down when moving through mud.

Social Gaming

The social aspect of Wondershot is really grest. Alliances can be formed – although unofficially – but can also be quickly broken. Those that excel will quickly become targets of others, and one wrong move could be instant death. Partnering with someone really makes the game interesting, and when playing with friends, this often happened.

For various reasons, Wondershot is an interesting title. Although we have not played it long enough because of a fairly hefty review schedule, we can recommend this to anyone looking for some couch, multiplayer fun. You will not be disappointed.
