Spotify: No Info on Other Consoles

Spotify is coming to PlayStation devices later this year, offering millions of tracks to Sony fans at no charge. It doesn’t appear to be coming to any other console, and now Spotify has confirmed that they have no plans.

In a post on Reddit, user CitadelSaint shared an email he’d had from the music streaming company after reaching out to them for more information.

Juliana, a Spotify customer support rep, said:

Right now we’re focussed on our exclusive partnership with PlayStation, so we don’t have any info regarding other consoles.

It’s important to note that it wouldn’t be Spotify’s place to announce that they’re also working on other versions of their app.

But considering that this is more than just “Spotify on PlayStation,” and that the partnership actually expands to taking the Spotify name out of the branding, you can bet this is a financial partnership that goes deeper than a timed exclusivity.

Xbox One does have similar apps, although they don’t function in the same way as PlayStation Music supposedly will.

For that reason, the lack of a Microsoft-focussed announcement has caused some mild controversy, although it’s likely that the Xbox division will go as far as it can to replicate any lack of parity in features.
