Rumour: Watch Dogs Wii U Cancelled

watchdogs_690x388

There’s been some weird stuff happening with Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. Initially met with extreme excitement, things died down slightly as more videos were released, and then it was delayed weeks before launch. Despite the fact that it seemed the open world hackster (real genre name) was finished, there are new rumours abound that Ubisoft have cancelled their Wii U version of the game.

From Wiitalia:

The rumor comes from one of our readers, and has been confirmed by Italian GameStop stores. Last week, our reader received a call by a GameStop employee, saying that his previously preordered copy of Watch Dogs for Wii U was not going to be offered; therefore, our reader was advised to move the preorder to another game. Asking for reasons, the employee told him that Ubisoft scrapped this version.

Some days later, he went to another GameStop, in order to preorder again the game; even in this case, he could not do so, because Watch Dogs for Wii U was not available in the store database.

Wiitalia tried to contact some GameStop store, and in each case the conclusion was one and just one: Wii U version of Watch Dogs is not available for preorder because Ubisoft cancelled it.

This is far from an official confirmation. While retailers will get the information early (usually while the publisher finds the best way to frame bad news for public release), there’s not enough to really get a clear view of the picture. Is it just cancelled in Italy? Could it just be a certain SKU? Ubisoft need to issue a statement here and, as of publication, they’re keeping schtum.
