PS4 Sales Surpass 4.2 Million

If you feel like you’re in good company, owning a PlayStation 4, you’re probably about right. Sony announced earlier this week that some 4.2 million consoles have been sold to consumers, an absolutely staggering amount considering the device has only been available for less than two months. When you think about the price and limited catalogue, it’s hard not to see that Sony has done something right.

From the press release:

“The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn’t be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014.”

With the early phase of the console’s lifespan now almost over, and with the Christmas rush well and truly finished, it’ll be interesting to see how the PS4 continues to sell in the new year. With titles like Infamous on the horizon, and Uncharted being teased, momentum isn’t going to just disappear, but it’ll almost certainly slow down.

Even so, the PS4 is here to stay, and it’ll be a while before you struggle to get a game in Call of Duty: Ghosts as well.
