PlayStation Now Beta Invites Streaming to Users in US

now-beta_690x773

The PlayStation Now service is still an awfully long way out for EU users, who probably won’t gain access to Cloud streaming until well into 2015. That point has been hit home even more today with Sony announcing PlayStation Now beta invites are being sent out to those lucky enough to have been selected.

Funnily enough, it’s PS3 owners that get to be the first line of testers for the system. The PS4 beta isn’t going to be available for quite some time, so it’s those that have kept their last-gen consoles who’ll benefit from the invite (which you’ll supposedly get by signing up to the PlayStation Now newsletter). If you get selected, you’ll need to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which seems harsh but will keep those who might take laggy, horrible footage and place it onto the internet without context.

It’s safe to presume this first wave of invites are going out to only a very small group of people. They’ll test the service, specifically certain features, and will no doubt be taking in user data about connection speeds and how well the stream runs. As the official release date gets closer – Sony said Summer – they’ll ramp up the beta to the point where they’re stress testing things. If you’ve not been selected, it’s only a short while until you may be, so watch those emails.
