How does Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Play on the Wii U?

Yesterday, I rented Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens for Wii U from my local video store. Yes, video stores do still exist and we have one not too far from where we live. I couldn’t afford to buy the new Lego Star Wars game, but I’m such a fan of the movie and Lego games that I just had to play this game! Here are my thoughts on the Wii U version so far.

I’ve always liked the Lego games, ever since the first Lego Star Wars game. When it was announced awhile back that TT Games would be doing a Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens game I got really excited. I love the Force Awakens movie. It is my favorite Star Wars movie. Yes, even over the original movies with Luke and co. I know many would disagree with me! I’m not here today to argue about which Star Wars movie is the best though. Today, I want to talk about the new Lego Star Wars game and how it plays on the Wii U.

I’ve only played a little bit of the game so far, but I’m very happy with it. The game has Off-TV, of course, and the graphics look really great on the TV and on the gamepad. I don’t see any other Wii U specific features so far. Update: I looked into this further and found that if you turn Off-TV off, a basic menu pops up on the gamepad. This menu will let you change quickly between available characters via the touch screen! Very neat. Though, I still prefer having off-tv (mirrored) available. Overall, I’m just happy that the game looks great on my Wii U and I love playing it on the gamepad. Oh and the game is so much fun.

I won’t go into details about where the game starts, but I have to say that I was really surprised where TT decided to start the game. It was a happy surprise though and I enjoyed playing through that section. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens has all the humor and fun that you expect from Lego games! I also think that this game’s new innovation, multi-builds, is a blast!

For those who haven’t been keeping up with Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, multi-builds are a new thing that TT added to the game. Basically, you’ll have a choice of what you want to build sometimes. There use to be only one thing you could build out of legos in the other games, but in this game, you are sometimes given the option to build two or three different things. You go up to some building pieces and when you press A you’ll see outlines of things you can build. By pressing different directions on the analog stick (left or right, etc), you can choose what you want to build. This feature is really cool and there are some neat new things to build in this game. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I’m not very far into the game yet. Still, I think this one is going to turn out to be one of the best Lego Star Wars games. I’m happy with how it plays on Wii U too. I know some people will be getting it for other systems because of the DLC (Wii U is not getting all the dlc again…), but I think this version is a solid choice! The graphics look great and playing off-tv is as fun as it always is. I can’t wait to dig further into the game. I think its going to just get better and better.

Adam Roffel will be providing Games Reviews with a Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens review for Xbox One sooner or later! Please keep an eye out for that and stay tuned to GamesReviews.com for all your Lego news!
