Uncharted 4 in 2014 “Doubtful”

Uncharted-4

We know absolutely nothing about Uncharted 4, except that it probably won’t come out in 2014. This was confirmed today by a Naughty Dog spokesperson on the PlayStation Blog, and is probably a huge blow to many a PlayStation 4 owner who was excited to rejoin Nathan Drake and co in a next-gen adventure.

In response to a gamer asking whether Uncharted 4 would be available in 2014, Eric Monacelli replied “Ha. Doubtful.”

So it seems it might be a long way out, perhaps even Summer/Winter 2015. In many ways, it isn’t a surprise. It’s Sony’s flagship franchise now, from the biggest first party developer; Uncharted 4 needs to be perfect, it needs to do everything the old games did but in a way that’s new and fresh. That’s not the sort of thing you can do on a two year development cycle (although you can bet Uncharted 5 will be along relatively sharpish afterwards).

What it does mean is that we’ve got probably at best 18 months of teaser trailers, build up and hype. Naughty Dog have learnt well from The Last of Us. Vague teaser trailer, vague introduction of key characters and then a gradual build up, to the point where all but the biggest secrets are revealed.

Uncharted for PlayStation 4 will almost certainly receive a bigger reveal between now and E3.
