First Look: Yooka-Laylee Double Jumps Onto the Nintendo Switch

This week, Yooka-Laylee will finally arrive on the Nintendo Switch! Team 17 gave GamesReviews.com a review code for the game and I played it a bunch yesterday. I’m not very far into the game yet, however I wanted to give you my first impressions of it! So how is Yooka-Laylee on the Nintendo Switch?

I can’t stop playing Yooka-Laylee for the Nintendo Switch. Even as I write this article, I’m wishing that I was playing the game instead. I am seriously addicted to Yooka-Laylee.

Yooka-Laylee is a gorgeous game. This is especially noticeable when you are playing the game on your TV, though it looks great in handheld mode too. Everything from the characters to the backgrounds to the pick-ups are so very detailed and beautiful. You can tell that the developers put a lot of time into the graphics!

No matter how good a game looks though, you just don’t have a good game without good gameplay. Yooka-Laylee has that covered: it is just plain fun. There are so many surprises around every corner and so many unique enemies and other characters that offer up new challenges. The hub world is fun to explore and the regular worlds even more so. And these are not small worlds that you visit.

I don’t think any of the worlds are as big as you’d find in Super Mario Odyssey but don’t quote me on that. Yooka-Laylee’s worlds feel huge. At least so far, I’ve actually only visited two worlds (three if you include the hub) at the moment.

I just don’t want to stop playing this game. I have other games I have to review and I’m in the middle of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (for fun) and I keep going back to Yooka-Laylee to play more. I only got the game yesterday but I feel like this trend is going to continue!

I am nowhere near ready to review Yooka-Laylee yet. This is just a first look at this game. The only real issue I’ve run into with the game is the camera occasionally acts a little weird. But for all I know, there may be some bigger issues with the game in later levels (I hope not!). Yooka-Laylee has been a wonderful experiance so far.

I will try to write another preview of Yooka-Laylee later in the week. The review for this game is definitly not coming this week.

Are you excited for Yooka-Laylee on the Nintendo Switch? You should be! Ok, now I have to go back and play more of this game. Poor me right?
