More Thoughts From Me #94: Make Mine Lego Marvel

Earlier this week, Tuesday to be exact, I got Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 Deluxe Edition for the Nintendo Switch. Since then, I’ve been playing the game a lot! I am nowhere near the end of the game but I wanted to share with you all my first impressions of Lego Marvel 2! How good is this game? Warning: some character spoilers ahead!

The Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 Deluxe Edition is great. I got the game, a poster, a Goliath mini fig, and a season pass for the upcoming DLC for the game! And three of the character pack DLC is available right away: classic Guardians, Out of Time, and Agents of Atlas. I was especially happy with the Agents of Atlas character pack since I’m a huge fan of the comic book. I can’t wait to play the level DLC packs! So with all this goodness, is there anything that some fans won’t like about Lego Marvel 2?

The X-men and the Fantastic Four are not in Lego Marvel 2. Some fans will be unhappy with this and other people won’t care. I loved the first Lego Marvel and its use of the Fantastic Four and X-men. They were really good in that game. But so far, I have to say that I’m not missing those characters one bit. There are just so many cool characters in Lego Marvel 2!

My favorite characters, so far, are Spider-man, Starlord, Rocket, Groot, Ms. Marvel, and Iron Man.

If you know me at all, it shouldn’t surprise you that Spider-man is a favorite character of mine. He’s great in Lego Marvel 2. But I’m also huge fan of the Guardians! Drax and Gamora are good (and in this game too) but Rocket and Groot stand out the most for me. I love Rocket’s dialogue. And Groot, well, Groot is Groot and he’s great.

As for Ms. Marvel, I haven’t read much of her comic but she is a blast to have around in Lego Marvel 2. Her dialogue is really good but she also has fun powers. And Iron Man is always cool.

Of course, there are other characters I like a lot in this game too (Lockjaw!!) but I don’t want to give away too many of the characters. And I won’t tell anything about the game’s story. I’ve been enjoying it and don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

Lego Marvel 2’s gameplay, though, is a lot like the first game and there’s nothing wrong with that. There are some cool new powers to be found in this game and Lego Marvel 2’s new open world is an absolute joy to explore.

Lego Marvel 2’s open world is better than the first game’s open world and thats saying a lot. The open world in Lego Marvel 1 was awesome. The second game’s open world is a treat though. There are some many amazing settings plucked right out of the comics. If you are a fan of the Avengers/Guardians/etc and the Marvel cinematic universe, then you have to play this game!

Lego Marvel 2 definitly feels like an amalgam of the Marvel movie universe and a lot of the Marvel comic book universe too. There’s so much to love in this game. The gameplay is fun, the story is really good, and the characters are great.

And if you are playing this game on the Nintendo Switch, you can play it in portable mode!! Lego Marvel 2 looks great on the TV, but there’s just something fantastic about being able to play this game in the palm of your hand. You can play this Lego game whenever you want!

I’m enjoying my time with Lego Marvel 2 a lot. This game is, dare I say it, better than the first. At least thats my impression of the game so far. Maybe at some point I’ll start missing the X-men and Fantastic Four. Right now though, I’m just having too much fun with Lockjaw, Spider-man, and so many more.

Are you playing Lego Mavel 2? What do you think of the game so far?

Next week: Since Thanksgiving is next week, I will talk about what (and who) I’m thankful for in the world of video games! See ya then.

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Now I have to go back to playing Lego Marvel 2!
