More Thoughts From Me #33: An Animal Crossing (amiibo) Festival

I’m a huge Animal Crossing fan. I probably mentioned this before in this column. I mention it again because I want you to know that I am not an unbiased source when it comes to Animal Crossing. I love the series. I love pretty much everything Animal Crossing. So when you hear my opinion of Animal Crossing amiibo festival in this installment of More Thoughts, just remember the opinion comes from someone who it totally addicted to the franchise. A lot of people don’t like Animal Crossing amiibo festival. The following is my opinion as an Animal Crossing fan.

I just got Animal Crossing amiibo festival last week. I held off on getting this game not because I didn’t think I’d like it. There was just always some other game I wanted more or we didn’t have the money. Finally, amiibo festival came down to $20 and I couldn’t resist getting it. I was super excited to receive this game in the mail. And the game didn’t let me down! I absolutely love amiibo festival.

Now let me get one thing out of the way. I realize that not everyone will like this game. I realize that some people will think its boring or stupid. There’s probably even some Animal Crossing fans that don’t like the game because its not your typical Animal Crossing game. For me, I knew going in that it was a different kind of AC game. I really enjoyed Happy Home Designer a lot. Of course amiibo festival is different from that game even. This game is a board game, which also has some small mini-games too. It’s a different experience and an experience that I’m enjoying so much. I’m so glad I own this game!

First of all, the graphics in Animal Crossing amiibo festival are a pure joy. Oh what could have been with a regular Animal Crossing for Wii U! Wow these graphics are great. They are so colorful and fun. Its amazing to see the Animal Crossing characters in HD. The mini-games look great and the board game looks, in my opinion, better than anything we’ve ever seen from Mario Party. Sure, Mario Party Wii U looks great, but give me Animal Crossing amiibo Festival any day!

As for the gameplay, it’s a ton of fun. I love using the Animal Crossing amiibo to play the game (roll the dice/etc). Also its very helpful/fun that my mom and dad are both Animal Crossing fans. I’ve played two rounds of the amiibo festival board game with my dad and then one round with my mom. Then on Saturday, we played three player on the board game and that was the most fun!

The rounds of amiibo festival last a long time, especially if you have the timer off. We don’t like playing with the timer on, so our rounds of amiibo festival last awhile. We love Animal Crossing though and had so much fun with this board game. The game isn’t hard, but I don’t think everything needs to be challenging to be fun. Animal Crossing amiibo festival is a nice relaxing board game. You get to see neat AC events and with the roll of the dice, you’ll either land on a really good spot or a really bad one. You just never know what you’ll see in this game! And the more people you can play the game with, the more fun you’ll have. I’m lucky I know two people (my mom and dad) who love Animal Crossing too!

Also: the board game isn’t the only thing you can play in Animal Crossing amiibo festival. As I mentioned earlier, there are mini-games in this game too. I haven’t unlocked all the mini-games, but I do have few of them. My favorite so far is the Desert Island Escape. Its so cool that you can use any of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards for this mini-game. There’s a lot of strategy to this mini-game and its fun to boot. My favorite Desert Island Escape was when I had Isabelle, Tom Nook, and Kapp’n stuck on an island. They almost didn’t make it off that island! Of course, not all of the mini-games are great, but I’m glad to have more than just the board game to play here. Animal Crossing amiibo festival is a great game overall.

The game uses amiibo cards and amiibo figures to play the game and also to redesign the game. I like that I can bring houses from my Happy Home Designer into the board game by using the cards (you can also bring them to the game’s plaza!). You can create new projects, like an outdoor theater, to go onto the boards map too! There are so many nice to features in this game. Oh and the gamepad use for amiibo festival is excellent. Nintendo created a great two screen party experience here! We’re having a lot of fun with the game.

For a family that loves Animal Crossing, amiibo festival is a must own! We’ll be playing this game for years to come.

Have you played Animal Crossing amiibo festival? What did you think of it? Do you have a favorite mini-game in it?

Next week: My thoughts on three of the new 3DS Streetpass games: Slot Cars, Market Crash, and Mii Trek! Are they worth downloading?

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone. I can’t wait till that Animal Crossing New Leaf update comes out!
