Talking Mario Maker with Gamer Parent

Last night, I was a guest on the Magic Hour Show podcast hosted by fellow Canadian, Eugene Huo. It was a special episode for a number of reasons. It was the 25th episode for The Magic Hour Show and we got to talk sandbox / creation games.

The unedited video is below of the Live Stream, and an edited audio version will be available soon via the Gamer Parent website and iTunes.

The bulk of the discussion revolved around Super Mario Maker, and the challenge of building your own levels. For myself, I found that even when I created an interesting level, someone on the internet found a way to break it by avoiding enemies through flight, or by sacrificing 1 – and sometimes 2 – power-ups to just run through an endless line of enemies.

Overall, the general consensuses was that Super Mario Maker, for the last creative types, is better played with like minded friends. Feedback on your level is instant, and odds are your friends won’t break your level as much as players online.

I won’t bother will all the show notes, but I will highlight a few of the things I talked about:

What I’ve been playing: Metal Gear Solid 5, Disney Infinity 3.0, NHL 16, and Super Mario Maker.

My pick of the week: The PDP Afterglow AG7 Headset (which we reviewed on the site). I like this headset because it provides a truly wireless experience on the Xbox One for only 99.99. I can now leave my living room to do something in another room without having to lug my controller with me, or taking off the headset. There is nothing worse then plugging your headset into an attachment that plugs into your controller! Ok, there are many things worse, but you know what I mean.
