More Thoughts From Me #80: Say Hey to My Little (Pikmin) Friend – Hey! Pikmin

I got a very unexpected birthday present this year. Adam Roffel, editor-in-chief of GamesReviews.com, got me Hey! Pikmin. I really wanted the game but I didn’t think I’d ever be able to buy it. So I was really excited and couldn’t wait to play it. Now, I’ve played the game a bunch and wanted to share with you my thoughts on it so far!

Hey! Pikmin

Hey! Pikmin is different from the previous Pikmin games. There is a section of the game, Pikmin Park, that resembles how the game was on previous systems, but thats about it. The main part of the gameplay, a 2D adventure/puzzle game, is very different from what fans are use to. To the fans I have to say: get over it. Hey! Pikmin is worth a look. More than that even, Hey! Pikmin is a really good game.

In this game, you collect Pikmin and throw them at objects to collect them and at enemies to attack them. You use the circle pad to control the Captain and the stylus to throw the Pikmin. The controls are simple, but very fun.

And fun really is the key to Hey! Pikmin. The game isn’t that hard, but it keeps you on your toes by getting you to explore everywhere and find everything. Oh and the graphics in this game are amazing!

Hey! Pikmin doesn’t have 3D. The reason for this is simple: Hey! Pikmin uses both screens of the 3DS for its gameplay. You will often have to throw Pikmin from the bottom screen to the top screen. 3D would be extremly jarring with this game. But this game doesn’t need 3D. The graphics are just beautiful as is. I would say that Hey! Pikmin is one of the best looking games on the 3DS.

If you have doubts at all about Hey! Pikmin, get rid of them. This Pikmin game is different from the others, but its still really fun and it has great graphics. If you are a fan of the franchise, check this game out. If you’ve never played a Pikmin game before, this is also a good place to start. Hey! Pikmin offers a less challenging but still very fun Pikmin experience on one of Nintendo’s best systems. Its a game well worth playing!

Hae you played Hey! Pikmin? What do you think of it?

Next week: Invasion of the 3DS systems. If you want a 3DS system, which one should you get? I’ll take a look some cool 3DS family systems and give you my opinion on them.

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thougths expressed here are mine and mine alone. Now back to Hey! Pikmin.
