Xbox One OS

Xbox One has had a few controversial changes before it launched. Many changes according their policies had been made before the console reached the shelves. But, in the end, what did these changes give us? Where the changes for the worse? I’ll talk with you about the Operating System (OS) of the Xbox One and find out what these changes gave us.

Kinect

The OS can be fully controlled by your voice. There are dozens of different voice commands (and gestures) which can be used to jump around the systems menu. The Kinect sensor can also automatically sign you in to your account. I must say, this is very impressive, since the Kinect is able to recognize me from my twin brother! Something a lot of humans can’t. If Kinect isn’t your style, you can always use your controller to get around. Still, I think Kinect is a great device, which I would suggest for everyone to buy. But, well, that’s just my opinion!

Snap

With Xbox One, you can have 2 different screens open at the same time. This is called ‘Snapping’. When you want to broadcast gameplay on Twitch while playing, you can snap the game and Twitch so you have both screens open at the same time. A simple double tap on the Xbox logo on your controller will switch between the screens. At first you might need to get a little handy in this trick, but it’s a really handy feature once you get the hang of it.

Personal Home screen

The Xbox One offers a personal home screen, in which games, apps you use a lot are pinned to. You can add your own pins to the menu, so your most favorite stuff is right in front of you the moment you login on your gamer profile. In the xbox live shop there will also be suggestions on which games you could purchase, based on the games you play the most. This will be monitored for every different person that uses your Xbox.

Conclusion

In the end, I think Microsoft has made a great next gen console, the operating system works great and the snap feature can be very handy. Being able to make your own home menu together with the input of the Xbox One is a funny feature which makes your favorite games and apps ready from the start. The voice and gesture commands make for a nice addition, while you might find yourself using the controller instead. If your language is supported, it’s fun to try and see which you like most.
