More Thoughts From Me E3 Edition: Sony Talks Too Much

Sony’s turn tonight, so lets dive into what was shown! We heard that they would be focusing on four games and be doing things a bit differently this year. And, well, it was different for sure. Here are my thoughts on Playstation’s E3 2018 conference.

sony

I have been a Playstation fan for a long time. I don’t own a Playstation 4, but I did own Playstation 1, 2, and 3. I even had a PSP once! So I’m not the type of person who wants Sony to fail. I don’t want any of the publishers or developers to have a bad E3. And while this Playstation E3 wasn’t the worst that Sony has ever had, it was not the best either…

This year Playstation tried to do a conference and a “Treehouse Live” like event at the same time. We saw the usual crowd of people sitting in front of a big screen (two big screens this time) and then that got interupted by a weird “Treehouse Live” sort of thing. I guess it was more like what you see IGN or Gamespot do before all the big shows. Lots of talking and behind the scenes stuff. Some gameplay was shown too. It was a very weird presentation. I liked some of the crowd stuff but didn’t like the stuff with the talking heads.

There was some good games during this Playstation E3 event. The real standouts for me were Spider-man, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and Dreams. The Last of US Part 2 looked good. And Death Stranding was…actually I’m still not sure what that heck that game is. Is it a game? Is it a movie? Is it a drug trip?

I wasn’t too impressed with a lot of the games. The Samuari game was a bit ho-hum. Control needs a better name. There were also way too many VR games shown. I’m starting to get tired of Kingdom Hearts 3 (it does look amazing), but would change my mind if it shows up tomorrow during the Nintendo Direct. Yeah right.

Sony just didn’t seem to have their act together this year. They had stuff to show but they wanted to talk about it more than show it. And when they did show stuff, they usually showed way too much.

Microsoft had the right idea. Show a bunch of games. They did talk some but Sony, man, Sony didn’t want to shut up.

Also what the heck was the deal with the musical performances? Did anyone actually want that?

Like I said earlier, this wasn’t Sony’s worst E3. It wasn’t one of their best either.

E3 this year has been a mixed bag. Everybody was saying EA did bad (I didn’t watch it), Microsoft was amazing, Bethesda did good but imo didn’t show off enough for Switch, Square Enix was horrible, and Sony could have been a ton better. Actually I think maybe Sony was worse than Square. It just wouldn’t end. I really wanted Sony’s conference to stop.

Ok, Nintendo. The ball is in your court. Please don’t let us down. Please do a great Nintendo Direct and then have an awesome three days of Treehouse Live. Pretty please.

Tomorrow: NINTENDO!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I do wish I could play Dreams though. And Spider-man. And Resident Evil 2 remake!
