More Thoughts From Me E3 2018 Edition: And the Winner Is…

E3 2018 is over. That’s it folks. It went by so fast! And I have a lot of mixed feeling about this E3. I’ll get into that, plus who I thought won E3 and what my favorite games were. Lets get to it. Final E3 column of the year!

E3 2018

Microsoft won E3. Come on, if you were reading my columns this week, you knew who I was going to say won.

The reason is pretty simple: Microsoft brought the GAMES. I don’t care if it was mostly 2019 games. I want to see GAMES. We all wanted to see them. This year, next year, first party, third party, whatever. We just wanted to see games. And Microsoft brought those games. Lots of them and a lot of really good looking ones!

Sony had a mixed identity problem. They wanted to give us a conference and a Treehouse Live all in one. Their presentation was lacking and in my opinion, so were their games. Yeah, Spider-man looked great. Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil 2, and Last of Us Part 2 looked good too. Overall though, Sony just didn’t know what they wanted to do this E3.

And Nintendo…sigh. I know Nintendo has had worse E3 years. Like, remember that year with Wii Music? But this year does rank among my least favorite Nintendo E3 years. It reminds me so much of that year that Nintendo only had Breath of the Wild for Wii U (I love Breath of the Wild, but man. whew). This year was a big downgrade from last year!

It wasn’t just the Nintendo Direct either. The Treehouse Live presentation sucked. I spent three days on that. It was a waste of time. (now you see why I didn’t do a seperate recap of the Treehouse) Maybe I should just skip Treehouse Live next year. Ha. Yeah right. I’ll never learn.

E3 2018, overall, was a mixed bag. Microsoft did great, Square Enix sucked, Bethesda did good, Sony sucked, and so did Nintendo. I hate to say that last one. I love Nintendo. I just feel so let down.

Ok, switching from E3 companies to games: what were my favorite games of E3?

Fallout 76: It had the best trailer and best gameplay. I wish this was coming to the Nintendo Switch. I really want to play this game. Could somebody get me a Playstation 4 or Xbox One? Please?

Fire Emblem Three Houses: Wow! This game looked so great. I was really excited for this. I had it all planned out for my Christmas. And then Nintendo said it was coming in 2019…

Fortnite: Announced at E3 and it came out on the same day for free. I am addicted to Fortnite. I even bought a headset for Fortnite. I can’t wait to play this game more.

Fallout Shelter: Another free game that was announced and came out the same day. Bethesda finally brought Fallout to the Switch. It just wasn’t the game I was hoping for (Fallout 3) but I like Fallout Shelter a lot. Even though I really suck at it. My Fallout Shelter happiness rating is SO low.

Spider-man: It looks awesome. I’ll never get to play it.

Forza: Another game I won’t get to play but man did it look wonderful.

Dragon Quest 11: Where is the Switch version?! The game looked great though.

Resident Evil 2 Remake: Whoa.

Kingdom Hearts 3: Very impressive. Wish it (or the old ones or both) was coming to Switch.

Lego DC Super Villains: This looks like it could be the ultimate DC Lego video game!

Octopath Traveler: Is it July yet?!

And there were other games. This E3 wasn’t a total loss. Still, I’m hoping Sony and especially Nintendo have a better E3 2019!

Next week: Back to my normal More Thoughts From Me columns. Next weeks More Thoughts will be about the newest Octopath Traveler demo. (spoiler: I love it)

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Why didn’t I mention Super Smash Bros Ultimate you ask? Because I got so very tired of seeing the game!!!
