Nintendo Movie coming to the Big Screen

Why not make a movie? That is probably what Nintendo said many, many times in the past, but now it is becoming a reality. In an interview, Nintendo announced that they were well on their way yo creating a cinema quality movie based on Nintendo properties. What properties they choose, however, will remain a mystery, at least for now.

Nintendo plans to do most of the work in house, although they are working with a number of studios for aspects of the movie. This is not entirely surprising since Nintendo is very guarded with their own IP, very rarely lending it out to others to work with. Things are trending away from that slowly, however. With this movie announcement, and the announcement about Nintendo Land coming to Universal Studios Orlando, Nintendo is slowly branching out.

While known for their video games, older Nintendo fans will know the origins of the company. What began as a card company has evolved into what it is today: an industry giant that commands a lot of respect. Even with the ‘failure’ of their later systems, Nintendo is still a force to be reckoned with, and their movie undoubtedly will do extremely well both in Japan and in the West. This won’t be the first time Nintendo moves into movies, however. Last year Nintendo launched a number of extremely cute Pikman shorts, and they also licenced out Bowser for the Wreckit Ralph Disney movie. This will just be their first major title.

What IP would you like to see Nintendo bring to the big screen?
