Uncharted 4 Shipment Stolen

Uncharted 4 is going to be wildly popular, there is no doubt about it. In fact, I know individuals who purchased a Playstation 4 for the sole purpose of playing the latest Uncharted title. Unfortunately, new leaked yesterday that the street date of May 10th had been broken; this story was later clarified to note that a shipment had been stolen, as opposed to someone at retail making a gross mistake.

In their statement, Sony lamented the fact that a shipment had been stolen, but placed emphasis on the game itself and what people are waiting for. Spoiler avoidance is the name of the game, at least according to Sony, who has warned consumers that copies are out there and leaks and spoilers are inevitable. As of today, Sony has not announced plans to ban or discipline PSN accounts playing Uncharted 4 earlier than expected. This might be because so many copies are already in the wild with reviewers, that finding guilty parties might be difficult.

No mainstream media outlet worth its salt will be releasing information regarding the story or game play of Uncharted 4 prior to the embargo date, but with copies already in the wild, I wonder how much pressure there might be on some of these smaller outlets to talk about more than they should. When a street date for a game is broken, it affects both the consumers who inevitably want to play the game, but it also affects the many reviewers and websites that really benefit from having games before launch. A lot of what these reviewers would normally post could be common knowledge before the embargo even lifts.

As a reviewer myself, this is very unfortunate. However, be assured that Games Reviews will not Tweet about, or post, any spoilers or leaks that might come forward prior to embargo day. We have reached out to Sony for a review copy of Uncharted 4, and will post our thoughts when that arrives.
