More Thoughts From Me #66: The Boy Who Could Be King

Whenever I see a game priced at $1.99 on the 3DS eshop, I can’t help but wonder how good of a game you could get for that price. Sometimes, though, there are games that are far better than you’d expect and they are really cheap. Ascent of Kings is a New 3DS game priced at $1.99. Is it any good?

Ascent of Kings for New 3DS is a cheap priced game, but it is not a bad game. In fact, if you have a New 3DS, you should definitly download it now. Why is Ascent of Kings so good? Let me tell you about it!

Nostatic Soft previously created games like Candy Please and Quiet Please. These collection of games were simple but oh so good. The old style “point and click” puzzle gameplay was a ton of fun. And now Ascent of Kings, from the same developer, comes along with the same type of graphics and a totally different type of gameplay.

Ascent of Kings is a 2D platformer with a bit of Metroidvania to it. There is a huge area to explore, new powers to find, story bits to uncover, and some challenge too. Ascent of Kings starts out pretty easy, though as you progress it gets more challenging. If you like 2D platformers/Metroidvanias at all, you should be downloading this game already.

As I previously mentioned, Ascent of Kings graphics are a lot like the Quiet Collection. The style fits this 2D platformer really well. Add to that just how polished the controls are and you get a really fun, well made game! And Ascent of Kings is only $1.99 (plus tax). It really is a steal.

Have you played Ascent of Kings? Let us know what you think about it in the comments!

Next week: Blaster Master returns on the 3DS! I downloded the new Blaster Master and I’ll tell you what I think about it in next weeks column!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinon column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. But you really should be downloading Ascent of Kings if you have a New 3DS! ‘goes back to playing it’
