LEGO Launching New Carousel in June

The LEGO Group is coming back around with their lineup of fair-ground Creator sets by releasing their second carousel set to date. This model is from the Creator Expert theme, and will retail for roughly 199.99 US, 249.99 Canadian. The set includes 2670 pieces, and is recommended for ages 16 and up. The LEGO Group seems to have carried over a lot of the ideas from their first go at a carousel set, but have not gone for a 1:1 replica. This is a completely new set that will look great on display, or when used in a larger, play scenario. Let’s see what’s all included!

The Build

The carousel comes as two separate based builds. The side model is a ticket booth, which holds one minifigure and adds to the play ability of this set. The larger build base, obviously, is the carousel itself. As detailed in a video (shown below) by the LEGO Group, the company has opted to replace the traditional horses and go with iconic fairy tale animals: frog, terrific tiger, sophisticated swan, fabulous flamingo, and an enormous elephant.

What’s great about the LEGO Group is that they think about everything when launching a new set. If we look at this set logically, it would be pretty difficult for LEGO minifigures to climb up on the back of the elephants back. Thankfully, a very royal looking stair is also build into the carousel that will allow your minifigures to mount the elephant and enjoy the ride.

The remainder of the carousel reminds me of…well…classic carousels. The one that instantly comes to my mind is the one in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, so this set won’t only look great in my collection, but will also act as a reminder of the great family trips I’ve taken in the past. LEGO created new curved pieces to create a beautiful, well featured roof that cover the entire ride.

What good is a carousel if it cannot move? Although I might have preferred automatic motion powered by a battery pack, LEGO does need to keep costs down, and want to create a more difficult and challenging build for those 16 and over. Although we haven’t build it ourselves, there is likely a fairly significant mechanical component to this set to actually move that giant – and probably heavy – base in circles, to accurately portray the movements of a carousel. In time, we will know how this system works, but for now, know that you can turn a crank to get the set to spin!

Minifigures

LEGO sets are sometimes only as good as their included minifigures. While I find most of these Creator Expert sets can stand on their own, without included figures, I’m glad that the LEGO Group includes them anyways, which adds to the playability of the set. I would think most people are using this to add to a current LEGO City display, or to put on their shelves in an office or home, but there will still be those that want to interact with the set. I’m glad LEGO thinks of them!

This set comes complete with seven minifigures, ranging from employees of the carousel to those wishing to ride it. While it wouldn’t say any of them are super exciting, there are a few unique torso pieces to add to your collection, and that’s never a bad thing! There are also a few great accessories that are not as easy to find as your standard shovels, etc. Look out for a camera, lollypop, and a hotdog!

Will we Review It?

We hope to find the means to review this set when it launches in June of this year, so stay tuned to GamesReviews for that. Either way, we will bring you the latest on this, and all of LEGO’s best upcoming sets.
