LEGO Dimensions Fun Packs: Knight Rider Review

LEGO Dimensions Fun Packs are a cheap way to extend your LEGO Dimensions experience. While many of the packs at retail can run you up to $50.00, fun packs generally come in around 14.99 – and can even be found cheaper at dollar stores around Canada! What makes these packs so valuable is that consumers still get really great minifigures and sets, but also access to the giant worlds these characters are born from. Yes, you might miss out on specific levels and large toy builds, but if your focus is the game, it’s a wonderful way to add content on a budget. In this article, we are examining one of the latest release, Knight Rider.

The Build – 55 Pieces

Everyone loves the Hoff, but unfortunately he doesn’t factor in here. Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation fame, however does a great job stepping in as the voice of Michael Knight, who will be the main feature of this world alongside his car, K.I.T.T. To be honest, Michael Knight is one of the more bland LEGO Dimensions mini figures we have got in a long time, but he’s still unique in that he’s only available through this set. For the collector, this doesn’t matter, but for those looking for the most bang-for-their-buck, you sometimes like to see a bit more out of the minifigures. Sadly, Knight doesn’t even come with anything to hold!

That being said, the work on both the torso and legs of Michael Knight are well done. The leg piece can be found in many LEGO sets, but the jacketed torso is definitely unique. It does a great job of recreating that 80s look from the movie that we all – well, those of us old enough – know and love.

We have a lot of standard cars in LEGO Dimensions packs, but LEGO has done a great job of making them all different in some way. K.I.T.T. might look like your run-of-the-mill LEGO car, but the subtle details make it special and unique. The build is what you’ve come to expect for a vehicle in LEGO Dimensions, so don’t expect anything different here.

The Gameplay

Once you get the figures on the portal, things begin to slide downhill slightly. Once again we are getting a recreation of a popular US city, although unlike other city recreations we have, this build of Vegas and LA seems very uninspired. There is lots to do, mind you, so if your ultimate goal is content, then like most LEGO Dimensions worlds, this one delivers. However, I never found anything really memorable in my time walking and driving around, so one I had completed most of the missions scattered throughout, I knew I was likely not going to return.

The alternative builds of K.I.T.T. are really great – can be rebuilt into a tank or a jet – and while these builds have their uses within the game, I’m leaving the actual LEGO build as the traditional K.I.T.T. because it definitely looks the best. However, in game, swapping between the vehicles is quite fun as they all have surprisingly different capabilities, which I found more stark than most of the LEGO Dimensions vehicle alterations.

Conclusion

Overall, the Knight Rider Fun Pack is a great purchase if you love the old movie and the nostalgia it can provide, but if you are not familiar with Michael Knight and K.I.T.T., it is very possible that disappointment will quickly set in. For that reason, we don’t recommend this pack either way – it’s a personal decision based on past experiences with the franchise involved!
