Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition PS4 Outsells Xbox One Version

The PlayStation 4 version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has outsold the Xbox One version by almost double it was revealed today. This is opposite to the original release of the game, which saw the Xbox 360 release as the more popular one.

For its first week of release, 69% of sold copies were for the PlayStation 4, whilst the Xbox One caught 31% of sales. The gap is much bigger than was between Xbox 360 and PS3.

Those looking to prove something  might say that the reason the PlayStation 4 edition of the game has sold so many more copies is because it manages to stay in 1080p at all times, and because it’s capable of 60FPS. These are good reasons, but unless you’re the sort of person that spends time looking at news reports on the web, you probably wouldn’t know the difference unless you had two copies of the same game running side-by-side. No, the answer is probably a little simpler than that: more people own a PlayStation 4. And, of those people, a lot of them made the jump from Xbox 360, explaining why the Microsoft bias of last-gen has shifted slightly.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was number one this week, which just goes to show that people are ready to rebuy their old games in HD. Early reports say that Lara Croft’s latest is much improved, and that the 60FPS really manages to make the game feel more enjoyable.
