Hype as Switch Launch Nears; Should There Be?

The Nintendo Switch launch day is either going to be extremely exciting or extremely disappointing. To be honest, it’s going to be great because I’ll be playing Breath of the Wild. But will my day one purchase be just for one game, or will it have the longevity that the Wii U never had. That is my worry as we get closer to the launch of the Switch.

The above list of developers – which has drastically grown since that graphic was created – doesn’t get me as excited as it should for a hardware launch. Is Skyrim going to be great? Sure it is, but I’ve played through that game twice already, which means I’m not likely to do it again. Will Lego City Undercover translate well to the Switch? I’m sure it will, but I’m not about to dive back into that experience. It was great the first time around, but a big time commitment, time I won’t have as the busy review season begins to ramp up.

For those who have only ever owned a Nintendo product, this launch will be huge. They will have access to great titles only previously available on Playstation or Xbox. This is going to be HUGE for those gamers, but perhaps not for everyone else.

Don’t get me wrong, the Nintendo Switch will be a must own console for all the hard core gamers out there, something that can’t be said of a Nintendo home console for a few generations now. That being said, I’m not 100% sure it is a day one buy, unless the updated Zelda graphics are worth 400$! What do you think?
