Wii U on 3DS: What Games do We Want?

The power of the New 3DS is truly remarkable for a handheld, and as we move towards the launch of yet another Wii U game on the 3DS console, we began to ask ourselves: What other Wii U games would we like to see on the 3DS? Let’s explore a few shall we!

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Captain Toad was a phenomenal game, which was influenced by a mini game available in Super Mario 3DS World. Captain Toad would make the perfect transition from the big screen to the small screen. To be honest, I always wanted to play Captain Toad on the Wii U gamepad because I always felt it was a more natural fit. I was surprised that Nintendo never announced a 3DS port of this great title, but with more games coming down the pipe, I think it is still a possibility.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

This technically wouldn’t be a Wii U port, but more of a Gamecube -> Wii U -> 3DS port! Listen, if Nintendo found a way to bring both the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask to the 3DS, I think they could totally port the Wind Waker over as well. The Wind Waker was easily one of my favorite Zelda titles ever, and the first Zelda game I actually beat start to finish. If Nintendo wants to print more money, they will bring this wonderful Zelda adventure to the 3DS console. Fans will buy it!

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Because we have received a fairly solid stream of Kirby games on the 3DS, I’m not too fussy about this one. However, this was a great Kirby title and I feel like more people should get a chance to play it. Control wise, I don’t see this being a huge issue to port over to the 3DS, but it will still require time and money on Nintendo’s end. If it was released, you better believe I would line up to buy this on day 1!

The reality…

None of this is likely to happen with the Nintendo Switch just around the corner. There are two reasons for this. First, Nintendo is focused on their new home and mobile console hybrid, and probably don’t have a lot of resources to commit to Wii U ports to the 3DS system. Second, any planned ports would probably bypass the 3DS and move directly to the Nintendo Switch. Despite what people say, I truly believe Nintendo hopes the Switch will take over as the primary Nintendo console and handheld in homes across the world. It’s a pretty safe bet in my opinion, but I still hope the 3DS isn’t dead.

If nothing else, I want more than 3-6 hours of gameplay out of my handheld when I’m on the go!
